Iggy Azalea – Sally Walker Lyrics Meaning Explained

A hip-hop song filled with sexual and violent imagery, “Sally Walker”, by Australian rapper Iggy Azalea was, amazingly enough, inspired as a reference to a children’s song called “Little Sally Walker”.

What is Iggy Azalea Sally Walker Lyrics Meaning?

It starts out with phrases about Sally being walking down the street and jumping
in front of her, Iggy. Although it’s difficult to say if it was meant to be literal or metaphorical (in the sense of someone who gets in someone’s way, as in presenting a difficulty or a challenge), in the video it definitely makes the choice for the first, showing just upfront the image of this girl being ran-over by the car of her rival – who shows no remorse and even jokes about all the blood by saying “red was always her color”.

The song goes on to a big cycle of rhythmically repeating “girl do your thing”,
which stays open for several different interpretations. It could mean the call to action to all women in the sense that they must go on to do whatever it is they mean to do or want to do in life, in the pursuit of their own power and independence. But it could also simply be a call to participate in the dance style of the song – very provocative in its way of moving the body. In going on a little further, though, one could argue it’s meant to be both things, for the words mention moves as well as money.

Going ahead, the lyrics also go into an aspect of female rivalry, so to speak, and it
hints at a possible affair happening between Iggy and another girl’s partner, while at the same time stating that it was merely a physical thing by saying the man just liked “how my booty moving”.

All in all, it’s fair to say the song is more about rhythm and a good beat for dancing
then it is about telling a story in a deep and coherent way. It’s a provocative, “female power” driven, dance song, first and foremost.
